OUTREACH

The church takes seriously that we are to be involved in social justice issues.

The past few year the church has worked with New Directions. New Directions-Family Violence Program of Pitt County is a organization that offers a domestic violence shelter and programs to fight domestic violence in our community.

Our church supports the American Red Cross, the local Emergency Assistance Ministry, and Church World Service. In addition, our church participates in offerings through the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), such as Week of Compassion and Reconciliation. We also are always open to helping persons and causes.

Our church is an active supporter of CareNet Counseling East in Greenville. CareNet Counseling East is an interdenominational pastoral counseling ministry partnership. The partnership is between the local faith community and NC Baptist Hospital’s CareNet subsidiary. Pastoral counseling seeks to intentionally integrate the client’s values and faith resources into the healing process.

The congregation in the past has supported PiCASO.  PiCASO is a community organization that is a resource for persons with AIDS/HIV and their families and testing services.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Christian Education for each Sunday is planned by a small committee. The education event is centered around the lectionary that is used each Sunday in worship. The committee hopes that those who attend Christian education are more prepared for worship and will understand worship better because of the education experience. At this point in time, the lessons are intergenerational. We feel that youth and children can teach adults as well as older adults teach youth and children. It has been a gratifying experience so far. It also keeps families together during the education class. During the school year Christian education is at 9:30 a.m. and we provide light refreshments during the class.

In additional to the Sunday morning class, our church members and minister offer Bible studies throughout the year.
